Dear Prayer Partners,

Pete Lyon is healing and recovering from his recent back surgery very well and said to tell everyone thanks for the prayers. However, keep him on the prayer list for just a bit longer… yesterday he began having chest pains, fever, blood pressure issues and was taken to the ER. After several tests they determined gall bladder infection. So Pete is scheduled to have gall bladder removal surgery about 12:30 today.

Yesterday was a great time of worship at my home church, FBC, Blue Springs. Pastor Randall had a great message reminding us that prayer is not “arm twisting” and badgering God until we get what we want, but rather that God is a loving Heavenly Father who wants the best for His children. Several verses came to mind as the Lord spoke to my heart concerning prayer…
James 4:2-3 “You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. 3. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.”
1Peter 5:6-7 “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7. casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”

My take-away from this…
1. It’s ok to ask God for what we need.
2. Check my motives for asking and allow the Lord to search my heart.
3. Humble myself in His presence and remember who I am, and who He is.
4. I can give Him all my cares, burdens, heartaches, problems, etc. simply because He cares for me! Prayer and petition is a privilege and possible simple because I am a child of the King! I can’t do anything to earn it. I certainly don’t deserve it. But as His child I have full access to everything He wants for me. What an incredible promise!
